White Sheet

a short story about haunting and hoping by special guest writer Jonathan Sims

The thin fabric ripples in the breeze.

The figure below is undefined. A vague shape. A possibility.

I have to hope it’s not just a ghost that loves a cliche. I have to hope that under that waving cloth is a living, breathing person. I have to hope that when it’s pulled away what sits beneath it is a smiling face.

Please don’t let it just be empty air. Don’t let it be a lonely space of covered nothing.

Your hand grips the white sheet that hides me and I wait to find out.
