The Ocean Spoke

a short story about discovering that the ocean is a macroprocessor dedicated to communicating a single message to humanity

All this time, we’d been dumping our garbage in the ocean and assuming it would keep quiet.

We didn’t notice as the networks of coral, algae, plankton and migratory fish formed a living microprocessor the size of a planet. The ocean was trying to communicate with us, sending a single encoded message.

“Clean up your shit."
